Iowa vs. Texas technical odds
The Big 12 has gone very differently for these teams.
Iowa was a major surprise in the conference, finishing 6-2 in the Big 12 standings and inside the top 15 in the country.
Texas Tech, on the other hand, is winning no-league play and going into the Monday night contest with an 0-8 record.
Despite it all, the Red Raiders enter this match with another victory. Tech won in Baton Rouge on Saturday, defeating LSU in the latest edition of the SEC/Big 12 Challenge.
Meanwhile, the Hurricanes hit a buzzsaw in Missouri, falling 78-61 to the Tigers.
This will be the second match between these teams. Iowa won Game 1 by 34 points earlier this month in Ames.
Let’s discuss where the value of the bet lies in Lubbock.
Kansas State has dominated a lot of conversation nationally and within the Big 12 as Surprise Team of the Year, and rightfully so. But Hurricanes should be right there with them.
TJ Otzelberger has done a great job so far at Ames and once again used the transfer portal to build a deep, high-quality roster.
The Hurricanes strength is their play on defensive end. ISU ranks #10 in the Ken Pom playoff rankings and also achieves #1 in forced turnover.
The Hurricanes do not allow opponents to move the ball from one side to the other in their half of the field, and Otzelberger has a lot of defenders choking on the ball.
In the first meeting against Tech, Iowa held the Red Raiders to just 50 points and 36% shooting from the field.
On the other end of the earth, Gabe Kalscheur is a veteran guard who has hit several big shots on the Hurricanes all season. He had 25, including going 5-for-6 from 3, in the January 10 meeting between these teams.
There is no 1 star on this offense, but it was effective because anyone could go up on any given night.
Things did not go according to plan for Mark Adams in his second year as chief at Lubbock. Injuries were at the heart of the problem.
Fardaws Aimaq, someone Adams was really counting on to be a big part of the offense, was out for most of the season with a leg injury.
Pop Isaacs has also been missing out on time recently and his status on Monday night remains uncertain.
Technology gets the ball rolling in more than 20% of its rides, and it’s just outside the top 250 rides in the country.
The Red Raiders defense held it most games all year, but the inability to get an important bucket in a time of crunch continued to annoy them.
Kevin Obanor is one of the bright spots at Texas Tech. The great transfer from Oral Roberts averages 15 points and six rebounds per game and is usually assigned to protect the opposing team’s best inside linebacker.
Despite the trying times that technology finds itself in, Adams doesn’t seem to be missing out on the locker room.
Five of Texas Tech’s eight conference losses have come by seven points or fewer, so there should be some positive slope in the “luck” department.
Iowa vs texas tech betting pick
I think Monday night is the night Texas Tech finally broke through and got a conference win. The Red Raiders have been close on many occasions, but they just couldn’t quite seal the deal.
Back home after the win over LSU, there must be a rowdy crowd inside United Supermarkets Arena. Red Raider believers may be unhappy with Mark Adams and company right now, but they’re still going to show up in full force.
Record aside, Texas Tech is a good defensive team and I don’t see Iowa hitting the ball anywhere near as well as they did in the first game between those two teams.
Give me the Red Raiders to generate just enough to knock out the Hurricanes and knock out the Schneider in the Big 12 in the process.
