More insight into the late Princess Diana’s rants marriage King Charles has been revealed.
Secret letters sent by the Princess of Wales to her friends detailing her ‘ugly’ divorce from King Charles reveal just how painful the separation was.
Thirty-two letters written to her friends Susie and Tariq Kassem are now up for auction, according to The Guardian. Mirror. The money will be donated to various charities that Diana, who Die In 1997, she had supported her her entire life.
Al Qassim puts the notes, which are estimated to have sold for about $111,000, under the hammer on February 16 with Lay’s Auctions based in Cornwall.
One of the notes to be sold is dated April 28, 1996, and described Diana’s feelings during her rocky relationship with Charles, 74.
“I’m having a hard time, and the pressure is serious, from all sides,” she wrote. “It’s so hard sometimes to keep one’s head up, and today I’m on my knees and I just long for this divorce to go through because the potential cost is enormous.”
Diana had announced just two months earlier that she had agreed to file for divorce from then-Prince Charles. The split was completed in August 1996.
Elsewhere in her messages, she also alleged that her phone was being tapped, a theory that appeared on file Season 5 episode of “The Crown” on Netflix In which Diana, portrayed by Elizabeth Debicki, believes the royal family is trying to harm her and worries about others listening in on her phone calls.
On May 20, 1996, Diana wrote to Susie: “As I don’t own a cell phone, it’s difficult to discuss personal issues as my lines here are constantly recorded and passed.”
“If I had known a year ago what I would have experienced during this divorce, I would never have agreed. She continued to note.
In a letter written on December 19, 1995 – the day after Queen Elizabeth notified Charles and Diana of their divorce – Diana reflected on how much she enjoyed the company of the Kasim family: I don’t want to be away from this loving family.
“I was so touched by how well you both protected me,” Diana added. “I’m not used to that. [I] I’ve never had such love and support from a married team before.”
The auction house said: “Susie and Tarek feel very privileged to have had the opportunity to get to know the princess up close.” “Ownership of these influential documents is a responsibility that the Qasim family does not wish to pass on to their children or grandchildren. The Qasim family would like to give others the opportunity to receive a “memento” from the Princess and, in doing so, support causes that were important to her.”
Mimi Connell-Lay at Lay’s Auction said the mirror that many of the letters are “emotionally crude and downright startling”.
“This is a really interesting set of letters from Princess Diana,” she said. “She wrote a lot about what was going on in her life at the time, especially her divorce, and she referred over and over to her lack of support from the royal family.”
Connell Lay pointed out that Diana captured Kassem during the worst period of her life.
She noted that “Susie met Diana at the Royal Brompton Hospital and they obviously clicked instantly, Diana says in one of her letters.” “They had a very strong relationship and what is clear is how much Diana valued their friendship, support and advice at a time of great emotional turmoil for her.”
