“The Challenge” star Olivia Kaiser about terminal injuries, and hospitalization

Brake alert: This story contains spoilers from the Wednesday, February 1 episode of MTV‘s “the challenge: ride or die.”

Throughout the Challenge’s 38 seasons, there have been a few injuries along the way. However, nothing compares to that Olivia Kaiser During the first part of the “Ride or Die” finale. Kaiser and partner Horacio Gutierrez Jr. were the only rookie pair to reach the 100 hour final, but they faced not one but two setbacks that forced them to drop out before reaching the finish line.

First, during a ball throwing competition, the carabiner tying the rope to the balls was caught on the tsar’s finger and opened it.

“My finger slipped under the clamp and when I threw it, it digs into my finger and tore off the top of my finger. The nerve was sticking out and hanging out — a little white nerve. I thought I broke it because it hit my bone,” she said. variety before the episode premiere.

Still, as the paramedics twisted her finger, she continued to help her partner drink the slop, which she described as “warm ranch with clam chowder and fish guts” that “smelled like rotten tuna or the bottom of the dumpster.”

Kaiser refused to surrender and continued on to the next checkpoints. First, they had to hold multiple tires, which dirtied her finger and reopened the wound.

Next, she and Gutierrez got to the slingshot challenge, where they each had to hit a target twice. However, she struggled to pull the bomber far enough due to her injury. At one point her hand slipped and bounced off the ball, hitting her directly in the face.

“So, [the medics] She made me sit back after the tires because they were dirty,” she said. “They knew it was going to be hard for me to go on, but they cleaned it up with this disinfectant, which hurt me so bad. I was screaming. I have never felt such pain. It hurt worse than my face. So, we were rushing because of me sitting down and cleaning my finger.”

Since she didn’t want to let her partner down, Kaiser said she was speeding through the barrier — which is what led to the accident.

“I remember seeing it out of the corner of my eye, the slingshot was kind of twisted on one side, I think. I just went to pull the golf ball back and obviously, you see — they caught it all on the creepy camera! — but it literally just came back, and it shook me to my core,” she recalls. It.” I thought my teeth had come out because the impact was so hard. It felt like my nose was literally sticking out of my face, crooked. I remember my nose popping a bit out of place because he felt it so I poked it back in. I licked my teeth to make sure they were all there and had an instant migraine.”

Kaiser said she was so scared because she was in Argentina, where she doesn’t speak the language and doesn’t know the area. In addition, she knew how severe the injury was.

“I was like, If I really get brain swelling, I could die. That’s no joke. People die all the time from getting head trauma. It really lucky, in a crazy way, that it hit me right between the eyes. Obviously, I still had a good aim.” If dread is an eruption,” she laughed. “If it hit me in the eye, I would have lost my eye or died, because the golf ball probably would have come right back behind my eyeball.”

Kaiser managed to keep her cool at first, because she didn’t want to show how much pain she was in, hoping that she would somehow carry on – even though there was blood everywhere. “Then I started whining when they told me, ‘Olivia, you’re done. Get in the ambulance,'” she recalled.

The former “Love Island” star spent two nights in the hospital, but was anxious to go home. First, she made a confession, shown in the episode, with a broken nose and black eyes — and that was with make-up. She had to go back to the hospital a few days later due to blurred vision due to swelling. While everything is now back to normal, she spent a lot of time worrying that that wouldn’t be the case.

“I’ve been thinking my whole life. I was like, ‘Did I get permanent damage for the rest of my life because of a TV show?’ I just freaked out. What are the chances of me getting seriously injured twice?” It was just a small wound. I mean, I’ve never seen my body ripped off. It was very disturbing.”

While Gutiérrez wanted to continue on his own and volunteered to do double the work, the rules were clear: you live and die by riding or you die. So, he had to go home. While the end was difficult for both of them, Kaiser hopes to be invited back.

“I was traumatized. As much as I want to be a hard ass, it hurt so much, because we worked so hard. I just got repeated self-loathing that I ruined everything. I felt really bad for a while and wasn’t sure how to heal my face, because the scar that’s there On my forehead it was really bad. I thought I would never look the same again. I was struggling with not being able to look like myself,” she said. “Every time I looked in the mirror, it was like a memory of what had happened to me. I’m not trying to be dramatic about it because it’s not that serious but in the same sense, because it’s not something anyone can prepare for.”

Kaiser continued, “I’m definitely scared because it goes to show that as much as they put in safety precautions, you never know. Terrible accidents happen. But fear never held me back. If I had the chance, I would definitely go back. I want to go back to redeem myself and everyone who supported me.”
